The new National Honor Society members were inducted last Tuesday in the Kayhi library.
Kayhi counselor, Natasha O’Brien said that the students are chosen because they demonstrate the qualities of the four pillars.
“There’s four pillars: Academics, character, leadership, and service.”
To be accepted into NHS, students must have a minimum of a 3.5 gpa, show leadership in and outside of school, volunteer regularly, and have good character.
O’Brien said the students are selected based on the responses in their application.
“Most often a student might not tell enough about their service or the stuff they’re involved in, so those are the things that really have to be talked up in the application.”
Returning NHS member, Viana Esposito said she joined the club because she knew people that were joining and she wanted to get recognition for her academic work.
“I had the gpa for it and I knew that it was service and I feel like I’m pretty service driven so I wanted to join and get the recognition.”
This year there are 17 new members and 12 returning members of the Kayhi NHS.
